On Thursday, while we were riding, we noticed that Red was lame (limping). We thought that it was from the day before when the horses were running around the field on the wet, slipper y grass and that he twisted it, because one time Red almost slipped.But the next day, when we went to go feed the horses, Red wouldn't come. So, we got a halter and tried to get him to come with us. So then, Red started to follow us. But he was limping very badly. And Toby was also being very nice to him (he followed us when we went to go get Red from the back of the field, just like he was trying to tell us that something was wrong with Red). He couldn't put weight on his left hind foot. So after we got him in the stall, we called the vet. When the vet came, she told us that Red has an abscess on his left hind foot, just above the cornet band. An abscess is a wound that got infected and now has a bunch of pus in it and to heal, it has to open. But the vet said that it has almost burst open. So, what we have to do to make sure that it opens, and that no dirty stuff gets in it, we first have to soak his foot in warm water with this type of salt for 15 minutes everyday to help the wound open up. After that, we have to put this green goo stuff on it and then wrap his foot in a diaper!! (a diaper because you have to keep it moist, so you can spray the diaper with water and it will stay moist, and because it fits perfectly around a horse's foot)! Then we wrap it in vet wrap and then with Duct tape, and... Tada! You have a nice little silver boot!
So, on Saturday, when we took the "boot" off, and we noticed that the wound still hadn't opened. So, my dad, who is a doctor, took out his surgeon's knife and made a little cut in the infected area where the pus is. So then alot of blood (which was probably mixed with pus came out. Then, we put another "boot" on and put Red in his stall.
Today, he is looking a lot better even though his ankle is still swollen and he still doesnt put much weight on his sore foot, but we have allowed him to go out in the pasture (which he was very happy about and started to roll right away).So hopefully he will be healthy again soon. :3

So today i had a riding lesson. There is a trail from behind my house to the barn where i take lessons, so we just ride our horses over there. Todays lesson was going ok. it was very windy but sunny and very warm out so we rode outside. But, there were ALOT of flies. I was riding in a group lesson with my sister and two other people. it was the end of the lesson and we were doing a small jumping course (with 4 cross rails around the edge of the ring) i was the last one to go and after i had gone, the lesson would be over. I was riding Red and he was already very sweaty and being bitten apart by bugs. So, i did a trotting circle to get Red ready to jump. But, after i had finished the circle, Red started circling by himself! And before i knew it, he had stopped. then, i suddenly noticed that i was getting closer to the ground! i then realized that Red was about to lie down, with ME on him!!! so, just in time, i step off him (because my left foot was already on the ground by this point)just like i was stepping off of a bike! when i got my right foot over his back, i just managed to slip my left foot from under him before he started to roll. i then jumped back wards to get out of his way. So, then he started to roll. i then realized that if Red rolled onto his back, he would break the saddle! But, luckly, my lesson instructor had already rushed over and was getting Red back onto his feet. so, then i just got on again and did the course, which we did splendidly. This all happened in less than 40 seconds, so it was over just as fast as it had begun.
